Brushstrokes, an exhibition of paintings by 11 painters, opens January 7, 2017, with an artists’ reception to be held at ARTS for Rural Texas from 5-7pm The public is invited to attend the opening and may view the works Jan 7-Feb 19. Gallery hours are Tues-Sat 10-3.
This body of work is the culmination of 2 years of study by a group consisting primarily of women who have never previously painted. It demonstrates the possibilities that can be found when people seek to learn and follow a dream. It is so common for people to express their enjoyment of art but to quickly follow with, “I can’t paint or even draw a straight line.” The 11 artists not only can paint but have experienced joy in the discovery of their own styles and expressive voices.
The exhibition of paintings include works by Dr. Karen Bookout, Madeleine Bullen, Polly Cisneros, Cindy Fanning, Julie Grote, Chris Hallman, Vicki Hanly, Allyson Hoffman, Kathy Johnston, Patty Kurlansky, Maxine Lain, and Karen Vernon.
