Step back in time and catch a glimpse of Brenham and Washington County history by touring a number of special sites throughout the county. Take a couple of days to tour around and really enjoy each site.
Start out at the Visitor Center in Downtown Brenham to see a 22-minute film, The Dawn of Washington County in the fully restored 1925 Simon Theatre (most Saturdays and 1st Sundays at 11am, 1pm and 2pm. Admission is $5 for adults and $1 for children). Then take off on foot to explore downtown Brenham sites including a pharmacy, museum, old fire trucks, and an underground cistern.
After a bite to eat, make your way out to Independence to see where one of “The Old Three Hundred” settlers lived, Baylor University began, and more. Wander out to Washington, Burton, and Chappell Hill to complete your tour of Texas history.
